Artist Statement
My recent work is inspired by found pottery sherds from Tommy Thompson Park (Leslie Spit). The water worn sherds date back to the 1960s through to the 1980s when the City of Toronto disposed of shattered building materials in Lake Ontario. The beached sherds tell stories not only about the changing urban landscape, but about life, displacement, memory and fragmentation in the modern world. Each piece emphasizes diversity in shape, color, size, texture, and gradient to convey elements of life now past. The series captures beauty in fragmentation, hope in despair, and renewal in demolition.
